South Channel Bridge

Opened 1 December, 1958

The South Channel bridge built in 1958 is a significant gateway between the US and Canada in the northeast. Primarily built to support the large lumber and manufacturing base in the area it has seen volumes and cargo contents shift significantly over time. In 2002 the bridge underwent truss strengthening work to increase the maximum transport vehicle weight up to 115,000 lbs. and in 2011 the bridge had a major repainting project to remove the lead based paints and replace them with safer more modern materials.
