Opened 5 April, 1998

Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge is a suspension bridge located in Akashi Strait between Kobe city and Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture. The total and central span lengths are 3,911m and 1,991m respectively. The Bridge was constructed in severe conditions such as high tidal current and deep strait by utilizing state of the art bridge technologies at that time. In order to protect the main cable from corrosion, the dry air injection system (cable dehumidification system) was introduced to the bridge for the first time in the world.
